Flaxseed is nature's #1 source for Omega 3 ALA essential fatty acids and plant lignans.
Flaxseeds are brown, shiny, flat, oval and pointed at one end. They come from a plant with beautiful blue, five petal flowers and are grown mainly in the cool, northern climate of the Canadian prairies. Most of the flaxseed in Canada is grown in the province of Saskatchewan. When in full bloom and viewed from a distance, a field of flax with it's blue flowers flowing in the wind is often mistaken for a body of water or a reflection of the sheer blue sky. After flowering, when the seeds have matured inside the flax 'boll' you can shake the boll and hear the rattle of seeds. Crushing the boll between your fingers and blowing away the chaff will reveal several brown seeds that were hidden inside.
